Basketball Posters

2017-19

11x17" posters. Made using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Top photo is of 1977 Portland Trail Blazers team, the first I designed. I chose the cartoon/flat style because I needed vector graphics, in order to lasercut three MDF blocks and try multicolor relief prints. This was one of my first printing experiments, and fun but unsuccessful. I realized the vector graphics themselves were bold and eye catching.

The designs below include Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers, a commissioned piece depicting Michael Jordan's infamous dunk contest, Jaren Jackson Jr and Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies, and Chris Paul of the Phoenix Suns.

Some posters show my attempts at adding backgrounds for my cartoonish outlined-athletes. Lillard's background was made by distorting line-art from Illustrator in Photoshop, while Jordan's background was image-traced and refined solely in Illustrator.

Other times I pick players and teams to depict based on particular uniforms, in this case Memphis' Vancouver Grizzlies throwback uniform. That uniform has unique piping, which I simplified in Illustrator for use on the jerseys and the poster's border.
