Audio Thermostat
2019
Arduino, pine, acrylic, aluminum, various electronic components.
Home electronic device created with Arduino and hardware, wood, metal, and acrylic. Designed and manufactured by “Colin Corporation ©,” the “Series 1 Audio Thermostat™” allows its users to measure and test different volume levels and, after the accompanying wearables are properly plugged in, to lightly electrocute all participants after exceeding a variable volume threshold.
Watch on VimeoMade for a college class based around learning to program Arduinos. My ideas were a variety of tongue-in-cheek home electronics. The speaker and microphone were basic components, while the electric shock circuit was taken from a shock/gag pen.
I spent an inordinate amount of time designing the packaging as well, to make the whole thing feel like a real product.
Below are some Adobe Illustrator screenshots of the materials that accompanied the Audio Thermostat and the lasercutter files for the front and back acrylic plates.
